Real Time User Approval for Shipment Split

Learn how to get real-time user feedback with Infobip's 2-Way SMS.

Searching for products is only the first part of a complete shopping experience. The next stage begins after the order is confirmed by the user. During checkout, the user agrees to a delivery timeframe and then the webshop begins the process of fulfilling the purchased items.

Sometimes everything doesn't go smoothly for the retailer prior to handing the shipment over to the delivery service. If one item is out of stock the entire shipment can be delayed, ruining an otherwise great shopping experience. When this happens, the retailer has the option to ship the available items now, and the missing items later. The only thing missing is agreement from the user.

So, how do you get the user’s feedback in near real-time? Turns out there is a simple way to do this by utilizing Infobip’s 2-Way SMS service.

Once your warehousing software discovers that the shipment is incomplete, an API request to Infobip can be invoked, containing an SMS message and the recipient's phone number:

{
  "to":"41793026727",
  "text":"Hi John. Your order webShop.com/orders/32223455 is ready to be shipped, however item X will not be available for another 4 days. If you reply to this message with YES we will ship the available items now and the missing item when it becomes available, at no extra charge to you. Reply NO if you wish to wait for your order to be complete before shipping. Reply INFO if you would like us to call you with more information. YES, NO or INFO?"
}

The user's reply will arrive to a phone number you have previously purchased through the Infobip Customer Portal or API. Each number can be configured to monitor keywords, and depending on the configuration, invoke the API request to the endpoint you specify.

  "from":"41793026727",
  "text":"YES"
}

From there, you can configure your system to automatically initiate different outcomes depending on the user’s reply. For example, if the keyword YES is received from Infobip, you may trigger a shipment splitting process in your warehousing software and send feedback back to your customer:
{
  "to":"41793026727",
  "text":"Thank you for your reply. The first part of your shipment is on it’s way to you! Trackyour shipment here trackingService.com/shipment/32343445554433"
}
